Reporting scam emails

$

There seems to be some confusion on how to report spam/phishing emails or those containing a virus to TalkTalk.

On page http://help2.talktalk.co.uk/guided-assist/report-phishing-or-spam-email/outlook-2010-2013/ we are asked to cut and paste the email headers into a new email to either phishing@talktalk.co.uk or spam@talktalk.co.uk as appropriate.

However at http://help2.talktalk.co.uk/phishing-scams we are asked to first save the suspect email to our own computer, create a new email and then attach the saved suspect email to that.

I have always used the cut and paste method, after which I receive an automated acknowledgement - which asks for the header details once more, though perhaps this is standard as the system cannot recognise what has been sent and just sends a generic response.

I may be sending too much information initially - before I download emails into Outlook 2013 I filter everything using Mailwasher, so cannot use the method you quote to isolate and copy the headers.  Mailwasher does allow me to view the suspect email in plaintext form however which should achieve the same result.  I am extremely loathe to actually download the email, as there is then a chance that the email could be opened accidentally and any payload deployed.  I have had to deal with the fallout when several friends did just that!!

However, I do not get any further contact, and am unsure if this is because the system expects a response from me so eventually closes the case or if no further contact is actually needed.

I do recall that in the past I was copied in on your report email to the sending isp, but that hasn't happened for some time.

I look forward to reading any comments and have temporarily stopped my reports pending clarification of which method that I should use.

the dreaded 633

I last posted regarding the 633 router that would not accept my password. I had to have help in the end but went back to my old router on the patient Indian gentleman's advice as he thought the 633 was faulty.

A new 633 arrived within 24 hours. Great!

My speed which had been a poor 0.51 with the first 633 ,dropped to 0.34 with the new 633.

The speed test on the TT website timed out!

I went through all the online help  procedures but had to contact Help again. The Indian woman was patient and helpful and  I was advised that routers take time to settle in. I accepted this and checked my speed this morning. : 0.18! Re-starting the router did result in some speed gain as it went up to 0.22.

I have unplugged everything and returned to my old 3780. My speed immediately registered 1.08. This will seem very low to many of you but is the most I can get in this former black spot area. (Hopefully fibre is promised next year).

This proves that there is nothing wrong with our telephone lines, nor with my setting-up procedure. The 633 surely, must be at fault?

I have checked Posts here and see that many people complain about the 633's poor performance. For a "super" router this is a very sad state of affairs.

All I can hope for now is that my 3780 keeps plodding on!

TalkTalk Webmail problems on Chrome

In the last few days, TalkTalk webmail on Chrome has been unreliable. Most of the time I cannot log in, and when I can, webmail freezes or automatically logs me out. Webmail never works on IE, seems to work on Firefox. I have deleted Chrome browing history but no improvement. Is this a known issue?

Emails to BTInternet bouncing back again

Anyone having problems  sending to btinternet addresses. I get the dreaded

"Maximum Retry Queue Age Reached" error message after about 24 hours meaning that despite being sent to the Talk Talk email server OK it can't send it to the BT server (or it keeps getting rejected). The addresses are fine (I've sent to them before) and I can send to non-BT addresses OK.

Judging by the threads here this was a major problem for former Tiscali users (I'm Pipex) earlier this year but seemed to be solved.

Please can someone from Talk Talk help?

I have a lineone email account managed now by talk talk but have forgotten my password.

I cannot reset it as I do not have a Talk Talk account. I have spent hours with the online chat service who say they cannot help and phone helpline 03451720088 who eventually say the service is too busy and to ring back another time. I urgently need to access my emails. I saw on a previous thread that if I start a new thread that someone from Talk Talk can solve the problem. I hope so!

Web Pages Not Loading - Large Fibre

Hi,

Over the past few weeks things have been going seriously downhill when it comes to my fibre broadband. When I'm browsing I get a lot of 'Web Page Unresponsive' and the only options I have it to 'Kill' or 'Wait'. I have tried this using IE11 and Google Chrome on both Windows 10 and Windows 7 laptops.

I'm so fed up with not being able to browse anything I decided to reset my router and also reset my laptop to factory settings. Maybe a little excessive but needed to try something as I'm pulling my hair out.

After resetting my laptop I needed to download Google Chrome but I wasn't able to do this due to losing connection to the website. I had to download an offline installation of Chrome which wasn't as easy as it sounds. When Chrome was installed the whole problem happened again.

I have bought my boys a very expensive gaming PC for Christmas and would be devastated if they were unable to use it Christmas Day.

Help with the matter would be much appreciated.

Kindest Regards

Andrew

Sending emails from Outlook 2007 / Windows 10. Pop3.

Hi, I have read the other posts, but find it too confusing. Up until last week I had no issues. I am on Windows 10, have emails set up on Outlook 7 on my laptop. Still receiving via Pop3 and sending via smtp.  So, a week into my holiday and suddenly it still receives but decides not to send.  Anyone help? Spent 4hrs online to two different webchat people, both did so many setting changes which made it worse as it would then not receive either, so much so that my online webmail would not send either! So, I reset back to my original settings so I can at least still receive emails.  It has been escalated to the back office faults team, they said they had changed some settings and that it should now all be working. Not! It wouldn't even send on webmail. PLEASE help me :-) thanks.

Hello Community,

I have been unable to access my Lineone e-mails since 1st Novemebr and i know my password is correct as it was set on my phone to pull them off so the last time it received e-mails was on 31st October and since then it fails. I have tried the web mail page and that says incorrec username or password but again i know these are correct and when i try the reset/forgotten passwd area it won't let me do it and says contact the talk talk team which i have 3 times now. The first time i was told i have no talk talk account so nothing they can do, and the 2nd and 3rd time they took my details but they apparently do not store them as i am not a talk talk customer, and they escalated it for me and i got a message via text that it had been looked at twice and resolved but i tried to log in again and still no luck and so reply that it has failed and i get the reply to call talk talk again and it starts again and i am getting no where, and i am so concerend as this is my only personnel e-mail for the last 16 years and it has a lot of information and more importantly re-irreplaceable photo's of my family and my dad who passsed away in December, Please can anyone Help!!!

Regards

Clinton

Emails bouncing, blacklist

$

I am losing occasional emails that seem to have been blacklisted ( from the error message).

I have held off adding this to the forum as Talktalk support has been looking into this for the past 4 days but don't seem to be getting anywhere.

The telephone support doesn't seem to have the expertise to handle it and it has been escalated twice.

The experts only communicate by sending text messages and have made no attempt to contact me to make sure they know exactly what the problem is.

My emails are coming through 1and1 and are redirected to both my talktalk address and my gmail address. There is no problem on the gmail account.

I have reported the problem to 1and1 but had no reply from them yet.

I really would like to have an idea about what could be happening so that I can pass anything relevant onto them

Since the experts have been on the case I have done my own tests - at the begining and twice when they've asked me to confirm whether they had fixed it.

I send a series of emails from a Hotmail account until I get a failure - have got as far as 26 successful on one occassion, worst case was 3 out of 10 failed.

Here is the latest error message - they are all basically the same:

Has talk talk got a problem in recieving emails from virgin media email addresses

Hi
A family member sent several email to one of our tiscali addresses (several with photos attached and one with a link to a item on amazon) last week and we didnt get any of the emails. They then got a undelivered email back with 'retry timeout exceeded' message in it. I then got them to send a email to another of our tiscali email addresses which also didnt get through. I then got them to email my gmail address that got through straight away. I have also noticed another recent poster in the email board that has had the same problem

Can talk talk test look into this and get back to me (talk talk need to test emails from a virgin media account to talk talk/tiscali addresses to see what is going on rather than just request more details from customers (talk talk have recently put up the price of my broadband so they should be providing a email service that works efficently (e.g not block emails from valid sources or not recieving any emails on occasions)

After deleting emails in windows 10 mail I found that they had also been deleted from my iPad and have disappeared from my talktalk mail account. Any idea why this occurred and is it possible to retrieve them?

Thanks,

Peter

To SSL or Not to SSL? that is the Question.

I 've just received the following email from TalkTalk:-

"How to protect your emails and tidy your inbox"
The instructions relating to Tiscali addresses and Outlook 2007 read:-
"If you use Microsoft Outlook 1997-2000, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Outlook Express and Outlook XP,please contact your software provider as the version is out of date and needs updatingbefore we can support with SSL."
However looking at Outlook 2007 Tools>Accounts>(Tiscali.co.uk)>More Settings>Advanced, I see there is a tickbox for SSL available.
Furthermore the settings for a Gmail account the SSL box is already ticked!
So,

Will SSL work with tiscali?
O.K my Outlook might be OLD, but is it OUT OF DATE?
Or doesTalktalk need to update the Tiscali.co server?

it is one of a long long list of technical problems with TalkTalk and ringing them is futile and stressful.

Onetel email - can't send emails

Hi,

I receive emails from my Onetel address but can't send. They get stuck in the Outbox. Sending through Mailzone works ok so I'm assuming it's an Outlook issue.

The problem started when I changed from TalkTalk broadband to BT. Do I need to change the Outlook settings?

I'm using Outlook 2013 with Windows 10.

Any advice very much appreciated.
