Phew! I don't know if this will help but thought I'd pass on info re my route to resolving my latest problem, i.e. with sending & receiving emails using Windows Live Mail
(there is at least one competent telephone adviser out there!)
to explain, I have tiscali addresses and have had same sort of problems as others over the last week at various times ... not receiving emails / old messages downloading ... again! ... I reported the fault on the phone Fri pm
Things seemed to be resolving Mon/yesterday
then from last night I wasn't able to send emails and this morning not able to send or receive through Windows Live Mail, although I could do both (reluctantly) using webmail
I had a text asking me if it was resolved this pm & a follow up, when I text back 'No', asking me to call
The adviser has just walked me through changes in Windows Live Mail: 1. the 'Outgoing Mail Server' 'Settings' to show that it 'requires authentication' and 2. the 'Server Port Number' for 'Outgoing Mail'
Out of interest, I asked if the problem had been caused by TT introducing new servers (as I gather they have) which required changes to my WLM settings
but he said no & explained that as WLM is an app, it can change it's own settings if it detects the need ... I thought naively that because I hadn't changed anything, this couldn't have been part of the problem.
for what it's worth ... hope it gives someone else who's having problems an idea about what to do next ...
