Problem with TT email server removing the "downloaded" marker

I prefer to use Thunderbird on my PC to manage, read and reply to emails. Over the last few days it has been downloading multiple copies of emails from the TT mailserver, i.e. it downloads several copies of each email going back several days or weeks.

 

I have just gone through my Thunderbird inbox and deleted several hundred repeated emails, and now it has just downloaded another hundred or so copies of emails that are already there. I don't think this is a problem with Thunderbird because I have been using this setup for years and I haven't recently changed any settings.

 

This doesn't happen with my mobile email, MyMail on Android, or with TT web mail - which I prefer to use only in dire emergencies because it is so atrociously badly designed and so grindingly slow.

 

This must be a problem with the TT mail server removing the "downloaded" marker from emails that Thunderbird has already downloaded. Please fix this asap.
