I have already posted this request on a post about duplicate emails but I am posting it again under a more specific heading relating to needing help to overcome problems with reconfiguring my email account. Thank you for any help you can offer.
I am one of the victims of the duplicate email fiasco that has plagued Talktalk users. After months of prevarication I have been told that Talktalk have at last come to a conclusion as to the cause and have offered a remedy. My problem, apparently, is all my fault. It has been caused by the way my system has been set up. Remarkably, it has worked for nearly 10 years perfectly well before this problem occurred. Talktalk came to this conclusion after testing on webmail and being unable to replicate the problem of duplicate emails. This is hardly surprising as I never had a problem with webmail. It just goes to show that the engineers never listen or perhaps never understand.
I have deliberately not gone into a rant about my views on Talktalk. I just cannot be bothered anymore. Problems and Talktalk are now synonymous and that is why people laugh when you tell them who your provider is.
I have tried to reconfigure my email account many times but the problem never disappears. After fruitless months of badgering Talktalk I am ready to give up and move to another email provider but before I do I am going to have one last attempt at solving this problem and I need some help from experienced MS Outlook users.
I need some help configuring Talktalk email on Outlook 2010. Talktalk recommend use imap rather than pop3. On the Talktalk help page the following instructions are given.
On the Internet Email Settings screen enter the details below:
- Your Name:Enter the name you want displayed to recipients as the email sender.
- Email Address:Enter your TalkTalk email address. Can't remember it? Check in My Account.
- Account Type: Select IMAP from the drop down list.
- Incoming mail server: talktalk.net
- Outgoing mail server:talktalk.net
- Username: Your TalkTalk email address.
- Password:Your TalkTalk email password. Forgotten your password?
- Tick theRemember password box (unless you want to enter your password each time)
- Untick the Test Account Settings
- Select the New Outlook Data File
On my system the option to use an existing data file or create a new data file is only given if you choose the pop3 route. As an existing user I need to use the existing data file. The system creates a new email address linked to a new data file which does not give me access to my old emails stored in the existing data file. I have tried all the options of cancelling the new data file but this only works if I delete the email account as well. I have added the existing data file but this then gives me another email address which only holds the historic emails. I now have two email accounts – one which just has the new stuff and one that just has the old. Confused? – I am.
Can anyone give me some insight into how to resolve this problem please before I give up and move on?
