In a somewhat similar manner to the post yesterday, I have received an email from TalkTalk to one of my 4 toucansurf.com legacy email addresses (the one that TT uses to send bills, etc to me) stating that it will be upgraded soon. The information within it seems to be less than complete or accurate in places. For instance, it provides a link to the new webmail login. However, this new login page simply then takes me to the existing Pipex webmail login page and then on to the old webmail system. So much for a preview of the new webmail!
Next the TT email suggests I set up my recovery details. As I don't know whether all 4 legacy toucansurf email addresses will be migrated at the same time, but that only my 'master' address gets this email, I don't know whether to set up recovery details for the other 3 addresses as well. Minor I know, but irritating. It would also be useful to know what 'recovery' actually offers?
The email also recommends that I switch from POP3 to IMAP to download emails to my email client and gives a link to a 'how to do it' page. However, this page only covers details of the legacy POP3 and IMAP settings for toucansurf in my case. These were always incomplete as the page still implies that email clients will not be able to download from the server while not connected via a TT router. Well I can download emails on my phone using port 110 at pop3.toucansurf.com. So:
*Can anyone tell me whether POP3 will still be supported in the new upgrade?
The reason I ask is that I could never get IMAP to do what I wanted successfully, namely to allow my mobile phone to download emails for viewing from the server but not clear them, so my PC could later again download them via Outlook and clear the server and act as the 'master' for possible archival. I can't remember what the problem was with IMAP when I tried to achieve this - possibly that Outlook would not download successfully if my phone had accessed the server first.
Finally can anyone tell me what the password requirements will be for the new mail system e.g. must have a capital letter, number, symbol, etc? Maybe I can change my existing logon password to comply and save some angst later?
